Who is Mr.M HAMMED SEGAOUI?

Welcome to Desert Luxury Astro Camp, a haven of comfort and stargazing nestled in the heart of the desert. This unique retreat is owned and managed by Mr. M. Hammed Segaoui, known as Hamid, an experienced local geologist and astronomer. Our camp seamlessly combines the natural splendor of the desert with the wonders of scientific exploration.

I am Mr. Hammed Segaoui, often called Hamid, born on March 3rd, 1965, under a traditional Berber tent in the desert, as my family were nomadic pastoralists, relying on camels and goats for their livelihood. While my parents envisioned a life of camel herding and nomadism for me, the challenges of this lifestyle prompted them to enroll me in school at the age of ten.

I thrived academically, earning my bachelor’s degree in 1987 before pursuing geology at the university level, from which I graduated in 1991. My career began with a ten-year tenure as a maintenance man in Morocco for a British company based in Cambridge. During this time, I also participated in international fossil and mineral shows, traveling to France, Germany, Colorado, and Arizona, where I showcased my expertise in geology.

In 2005, I began organizing geological field trips throughout Morocco, leading groups from prestigious institutions such as the Natural History Museum in London, Birkbeck College, Portsmouth University, and Open University. In 2012, my interest in astronomy was piqued at the 3rd edition of the Al Akhawayn University Festival of Astronomy in Ifrane, Morocco. I pursued this passion further by completing a four-day GTTP training and receiving a 200mm telescope as a gift from a friend in London.

Since 2013, I have led professional geological field tours across Morocco, particularly in the southeast, Atlas Mountains, and Sahara Desert. My tours combine geological exploration with captivating night sky lectures and stargazing sessions. In 2023, I achieved official recognition as a licensed English-speaking tour leader, accredited by the Moroccan Tourism Office under License GCVT 3321.

At my Andromeda Observatory, we offer a range of telescopes, including a 200mm Celestron C8, a 400mm Dobsonian GoTo, a 350mm Dobsonian manual, and a 100mm Meade manual, all designed to enhance your stargazing experience.

At Desert Luxury Astro Camp, we have spared no effort in creating a high-standard environment that reflects the vast knowledge and expertise I have accumulated over the years. Our luxury tents are meticulously designed with modern amenities, including comfortable beds, private bathrooms, and air conditioning, ensuring that your stay is as comfortable as it is memorable.

During the day, guests can embark on guided tours to explore the desert’s unique geology and ecosystems. As night falls, the camp transforms into an astronomical observatory, where you can observe the stars through high-powered telescopes. I will personally guide you through the constellations, sharing my extensive knowledge and passion for the night sky.
